Lions present £9000 knife to eye surgeons

King’s Lynn Lions with the support of Swaffham, Fakenham, Hunstanton  and Downham clubs have achieved a target of raising around £9000 to purchase the latest high tec’ radio frequency knife for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Ophthalmology department. Photo shows Lion President John Groom presenting the equipment to ophthalmic surgeons Zahida Butt and Joseph Push. This equipment can minimise intrusive surgery and patient discomfort which may result from surgical procedures.Almost half of the funding was from the Don Peech Fund, money collected after the twice EA District Governor’s untimely death. The fund had previously financed candidates on the Duke of Edinburgh Gold awards. His widow Lioness Eileen was present at the presentation as  were representatives of the neighbouring Lions and Lioness clubs. The presentation proves what can be achieved when clubs  in the same zone get together in a common task.
